How to make the most of your candidate experience
It can be overwhelming. No, it is overwhelming to look for a new job. And as exciting as it is when you get your first interview and start to engage in an interview process, there is a lot of stress, unsolicited advice and well-meaning and not so well-meaning noise that the candidate has to manage. We on the Mainstay recruiting team were chatting about this recently and thought that a quick info sheet may be helpful for candidates that we talk to. And like all the resources we put together we want to share them widely to help others.
Bottom line for us, we mean what we say (ask us anything!) we truly want to help candidates (we aren’t going to use your honesty against you) and we are not in the business to low ball or “screw you” when it comes to comp (if you state a salary ask that is below our band, we will tell you!). I personally think this is true for a lot of recruiters, but know it isn’t universal. Candidates- trust your gut- you can usually sniff out a recruiter who isn’t on your side.
Below are some common well-intentioned pieces of advice and our counter, and some things you may hear us say that we mean and how we hope you’ll respond. We hope it helps you as you interview with us, and anywhere!
